Melanie Machos's Team in Training PledgePage
Click Here for My Donation Page
Welcome friends! If you have come via my donation page, please explore the pages on the left. :) Have you ever felt like you need to do more for others? Have you ever wanted to really challenge yourself mentally and physically? These are the reasons that I will be training to run a marathon - that's right, 26.2 miles (!) - to help raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I will receive expert coaching on my journey to cross the finish line on June 5th and to RAISE $3500 DOLLARS for the cause. You might think I'm crazy to do this (and I'm beginning to believe I am, considering I've never run before), but the Team in Training program is an amazing way to help fund blood cancer research and services. I will be running in honor of three people - my "Honored Heroes": -Robert Greene is 42 and coaches basketball at Arlington High. He is fighting Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia with daily Gleevac. -Layla Duckwall is 26 and is currently on chemo for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. -Allan Kelley is 2 and is currently in remission from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia-YEA! See PHOTOS of Allan on the photo page and VISIT his Web site on the links page! Please sign my guestbook and LET ME KNOW YOUR STORY. I would be honored to add you or your loved one to my Honored Heroes page (and bracelet)! Did you know? -Every 5 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood-related cancer. -Every 9 minutes someone dies from a blood-related cancer. -Leukemia is the #1 cause of death in children between the ages of one and fifteen. BUT YOU CAN HELP! Because of organizations like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the survival rate for blood-related cancers has risen from 4% in 1960 to over 81%! Please browse through this site, read my diary, see the photos, visit the links, and by all means - DONATE! Sometimes it seems like you are too small to make a difference. Sometimes you feel like there is nothing you can do. NOT THIS TIME! Please make a tax-deductible contribution right now! Over 75% of your donation will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for research, patient services, advocacy, and education. Thank you, Melanie |
